Paralegal Studies SCS Students
Please read the IRS Data Retrieval Tool section before completing the 2012-13 FAFSA.
Students enrolled in Georgetown’s Paralegal Studies Programs at least half-time may be eligible for federal financial aid. To determine eligibility, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). On the FAFSA, use School Code: 001445
When completing the FAFSA application, please keep these things in mind:
- Question 28: Paralegal Studies students are "5th year/other undergraduate.” Do not answer the question as a graduate student.
- Question 29: Paralegal Studies students are considered "Certificate or diploma (occupational, technical or educational program of less than two years).”
IRS data retrieval tool
- The U.S. Department of Education recently created an enhancement to the FAFSA filing process by allowing applicants and parents to retrieve tax data from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This new process called the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, the best and easiest way to provide accurate income information on the FAFSA , will be available February 1st, 2012.
- Your income tax information will generally be available through the IRS Data Retrieval Tool 2 weeks after electronic filing and 8 weeks after submitting a paper tax return.
- If the IRS Data Retrieval Tool is not used during the initial application, applicants are required to update information to reflect the income and tax information reported on the actual tax return. We strongly encourage the use of the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to update this information after taxes are submitted.
Additionally, please see the annual loan limit chart for maximum federal loan amounts. Paralegal studies students can borrow up to the annual limits of a fourth year undergraduate.
Loans
Students in this program are also considered undergraduate students and are thus not eligible for the Graduate Plus Loan.
However, paralegal studies students may be eligible for Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized, or government sponsored low-interest, loans.
Tuition Assistance
